UMOJA is engaged in a variety of impactful projects aimed at empowering African communities
At Umoja, we believe that talent is universal, but opportunity is not. That’s why we’re on a mission to open doors for bright, determined students across Africa who are held back by financial hardship.
We support young people with big dreams by helping them stay in school, covering their fees, and walking alongside them with guidance and mentorship. Starting in Burundi, our goal is to expand and reach even more students across the continent.

Academic Excellence
We partner with teachers and community leaders to identify students who show strong potential and a passion for learning.
Real Financial Need
We focus on families that are truly struggling, using income records, home visits, or community references to understand their situation.
Strong Commitment
Each student writes about their goals, and their parents or guardians agree to support them fully along the way.
Whole-Person Approach
We value leadership, resilience, and a heart for giving back not just good grades.
Fair and Transparent
Our process is guided by clear values. To keep things fair, we don’t accept applications from relatives of Umoja staff.
Independent Selection
A trusted panel of educators, leaders, and Umoja advisors helps us choose the most deserving applicants.

We stay connected with every student we support, checking in on their progress and offering mentorship to help them thrive.
